Sweet Wheel Farms was created to solve the food desert in Summerland after the debris flow in 2018 left the town cut off from the rest of Santa Barbara county- and food. Desperate citizen's protecting their children actually started fighting over the last food at the liquor store. After hearing the story of one young mother, retailer, entrepreneur and farmer Leslie Person Ryan started farming in Orcutt, Carpinteria and then Summerland to solve the issue. When her Summerland farm was set to be sold and developed, she led a campaign with some community volunteers and the help of local non profits to save the farm from development. Angel funding came in at the last minute from Manitou Fund and the farm was saved. The farm continues to grow without any herbicides or pesticides.

Within a year, a farm stand worker disclosed that her family was horribly food insecure. Leslie started a program to deliver food to her and other family's in need called the Healthy Farmed Food Program. That program has grown to hundreds of citizens receiving farm food weekly.
